Ducks are social animals and demand good companionship from their owner. Ducks make very entertaining pets. Pet ducks entertain you with their cute behavior and tricks. A male duck is called a drake, a female is called a duck and babies are called ducklings. Pet ducks range widely in size, color and shape. Here are few tips that will guide you to choose right food for your duck. It is best to feed a diet produced exclusively for ducks, such as Mazuri feeds-made by Purina. Ducklings grow fast and necessitate food high in protein and calories. Pellets should be small that ducklings can easily eat. Diet for first three weeks should have 18-20 per cent protein.

Laying ducks require high amount of calcium and proteins in their diet. Laying ducks should be offered diet with 16-17 per cent protein and calcium. Ducks can also be fed chopped hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes, bugs, garden snails, worms, night crawlers, mealworms, bloodworms, and floating coy food. Switch your ducks to a maintenance diet when they stop laying eggs. Drakes should be fed a maintenance diet that is 14 per cent protein.
